Water Filters That Get Rid of Sulfur Smell in Well Water

In a previous post, I talked about how our well water smells like sulfur (or rotten eggs). I talked about how there can actually be health benefits to sulfur in your water. Yet, I still am not a fan of showering in sulfur fumes. Since we do retreats at our house, I didn’t feel comfortable having our guests bathe in stinky sulfur water either.

So, Dave and I ordered some filters. The ones that have worked the best to get rid of the smell are the

Aquasana shower head water filter to get rid of stinky sulfur smell from well water.

Aquasana AQ-4100 Deluxe Shower Water Filter System

We use this one in our master bathroom and it does well eliminating the odors. Don’t bother buying the replacement filters though… something about the plastic and the threading of the replacement filters gave Dave trouble. We ended up with a big leak in the shower head by using the replacement filters because the filter didn’t attach neatly. Amazon will sell you a whole new filter with the shower head for just as cheap as buying the replacement filter. So just buy a complete new head/filter instead of buying the replacements.

Currently we’re using this Pelican shower water filtration system in our bathroom upstairs that guests use. It is doing very well to eliminate the sulfur smells. We haven’t needed to replace the filter yet, so I’m not sure how well the replacement filter can be installed without causing the same problem we saw with the Aquasana replacement filter.
