A natural yard not only is a refuge for birds, butterflies, bees and small animals. It provides color and a buffer zone, catching fertilizers, pesticides and pollution before they can runoff into the lake.

Compare the lawn next door with the buffer area in my folk’s natural yard. All the fertilizer, pesticides and other toxic materials my neighbor uses on his lawn (on the left) flows right into the lake. The buffer area on the right captures pollutants AND provides beauty.
